H I S T O R Y

The Philippine College of Chest Physicians’ history spans 46 years of achievements and a series of changes that molded the society into what it is today, dynamic with a solid foundation anchored on a people-empowered MISSION and VISION.

Its separation from the 2 other societies, The Philippine Association of Thoracic and CardioVascular Surgeons and The American College of Chest Physicians (Philippine Chapter) then the International Academy of Chest Physicians and Surgeons, with whom it launched for several years the Annual Chest Convention has been a turning point in its quest to be recognized as a distinct organization in pulmonology, both locally and internationally.

Aside from the Annual Chest Convention which has been its flagship, it has maintained its Midyear Convention in several key cities outside Metro Manila; its Councils with its prestigious leaderships have laid down consensus and guidelines for the management of pulmonary diseases. Medical missions held nationwide were all successful endeavors. Among other worthwhile projects were interhospital conferences, Lakad Lung, out-of-town lectures, accreditation of hospitals and highly trained pulmonary specialists who will ensure the monumental climb of this country into the next century.

As a strong society, the PCCP faces the future focused and with a goal to change the quality of life of our people afflicted with pulmonary diseases especially pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial asthma and COPD, chronic illnesses that have paralyzed our country’s growth along with other acute pulmonary problems like pneumoniae.

The PCCP has pioneered, diversified and taken a higher leap towards a better future.
