Southern Mindanao Chapter

PHILIPPINE COLLEGE OF CHEST PHYSICIANS SOUTHERN MINDANAO CHAPTER PRESIDENTS’ REPORT 2023

The chapter , as of November 2023, when we had the Board on the Road event has grown to 58 members. We have members from Region XII- SOCCSARGEN which stands for South Cotabato, Cotabato City, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City. We also have members in the cities of Digos , Kidapawan Zamboanga , Tagum, Panabo and Davao City.

It is in January that we hold our annual holiday/post Christmas fellowship . In February 2023 we had a chapter ini ated lecture by Dr. Ted Esguerra on High Al tude Pulmonary Illnesses. It was a hybrid lecture. Members in the different ci es par cipated in the college advocacy campaign on No to Tobacco and Vape smoke by way of social media pos ngs and lay lecture (during the Medicine week celebra on ) by our member, Dr. Charlie Clarion. The commi ee on COPD of our chapter headed by the very able, Dr. Radha Sillano , spearheaded the free spirometry campaigns in various areas. This was in collabora on with UAP and were able to cater to 115 pa ents. Some were also enrolled to the CPASS project a er. In Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, even by her lone self, Dr. Joanne Guerrero par cipated in the World COPD Day celebra on by hos ng lay lectures and free spirometry to some of her pa ents.

The members of the chapter also par cipated in the Video Clip making contest of our college. The video clip on “How does TB affect my body” spearheaded by the commi ee on TB headed by Dr. Romulo Uy. The video made on “How asthma affects one’s life” by the Commi ee on Asthma- Dr. Yum Morell , who has (sadly for our chapter) since transferred area of prac ce and Dr. Radha Sillano. We a ended the Health Forum Agenda, Regional Tobacco Control Network Mee ng and met Ms. Rose Basañes . We had an ini al discussion on how we, in the chapter , can collaborate with them in DOH Region XI and Dep Ed Region XI for our No to Vape and smoke campaign among high school students.

The chapter meets every last Tuesday of the month for upda ng of the members. Since May 2023 we have started the planning of the 24th PCCP Midyear Conven on to be held in Davao City come August 29 – 31, 2024. This opportunity to host the Midyear conven on ,a er 10 years , has spurred a lot of excitement in our group. Our chosen conven on theme is AGILA- Advocacies , Guidelines & Insights on Lung cAre . It heartening to see so many talented and innova ve members but are always ready to help in the work. Our video – teaser ,to be presented on the business mee ng in this 2024 annual conven on, will show you the joy and excitement behind the few stressful moments in this prepara on .
